In mid 2003 I thought I'd experiment with a weblog, in part out of curiosity, and in part as a discipline in writing and keeping a diary of activities. It's meant for me but if other people find it interesting that's OK too.
I initially started off with a simple layout using BBEdit to maintain the files. The current file would grow and then be retired to an archive with a changed name and links to it created. A new blank current file would be created. Each file would contain multiple entries. As I maintain an manual index to the site I had to create anchors for each entry and then add index entries which pointed to the appropriate entry. The result was that I ended up with a lot of work to support the pages, more than there was involved in writing the entries. That was not what I had intended when I started.
So I stopped. Writing was too hard and maintaining the index was close to a nightmare. I now have a partial solution to everything except the index, iBlog software. So I've restarted the blog using this software and I've got a few half formed ideas about the index involving php.
